A REV-UP FROM TIGER

I’ve been a fitness freak my whole life. I’d run and swim whenever I could – but I’d not been one for the gym until I started working for Tiger. At a World Cup tournament in Kuala Lumpur, I had my first gym session with Tiger. The challenge was that I did the same routine as him but with lighter weights. The next morning I couldn’t even lift the toothbrush to my mouth I was hurting that bad.

One thing Tiger taught me was to strive to be better. I’m grateful to have been around a person whose self-discipline and work ethic rubbed off on me. Over the years I got fitter from being around him because I learned to push myself harder. In training I sometimes got into a routine, such as doing a 10km run knowing it was going to take about 42 minutes. That’s what I’d come to expect of myself and I was happy with that – but Tiger would say, ‘No, Stevie – you can do better than that. You can push yourself,’ and I’d go out and improve.
